This painting depicts a sort of utopia that we have forgotten- one devoid of any sense of time. As our lives are ruled by our watches we realize that subconsciously we have absorbed the idea of a countdown every day, as time runs out, slips through our fingers, and we try desperately to fill each minute with as much productivity and efficiency as we can. The young girl, sitting beneath a moonless sky, is free from the reach of the clock. She sits in wonder, accompanied by only her own thoughts. She is almost a part of everything around her- the sea, the wind, the sky- she is a part of it all. There is no moon or sun- she sits on the edge of eternity.
