This work is representative of faith, and the human ability to hold on to hope in even the direst of moments. The painting portrays humanity, literally hanging by a thread. We are surprised to see a dejected higher being is also in its existential crisis as we are. The red background is reminiscent of all the atrocities, the calamities, and the injustices in the world. As gallant and heroic, we have portrayed the God of War- Ares to be, this God of Post War trauma seems equally unheroic. As humans seek solace from Him, He appears deep in thought- perhaps unable to offer neither consolation nor justification.
