Description
The woman on the beach appears to capture a relatively simple scene- of a woman sitting by the ocean. However, the painting depicts the relationship between life and thoughts. We see the ocean as a reflection of her thoughts. At the same time, one may argue that her thoughts are a reflection of her reality. This balance of reality and perception is depicted by balancing figurative abstraction and employing of negative spaces to create the two elements of the composition, the woman and the sea. I explore the completeness of the moment depicted, reflecting on the woman’s role as a creator of life. Here, at the beach, we celebrate the ambiguity of whether she is from nature or if nature is from her.
