Wajd

This piece captures a whirling dervish, as he seeks to transcend to a higher realm- where his thoughts, his love, and all of him is consumed in dhikr– or the remembrance of the One.  The painting is rendered in gold brushwork and symbolic of all that Sufism stands for – universal love, peace, and acceptance of all paths that lead to the ultimate submission.  The meditation of motion can best be understood in the words of Rumi: “In order to understand the dance one must be still.  And in order to truly understand stillness one must dance”.
