Description
Inspired by the malangs of Data Darbar in Lahore, this painting captures the essence of the Sufi devotees- or Faqeers who disassociate themselves from the pursuit of all things worldly, and instead seek to find truth within themselves. By giving up all pretenses and shunning the rules of society, the faqeer becomes a true free spirit, who is attuned with the energies of the Universe. He not only accepts success and failure that comes his way, but is able to rejoice in them, trusting the grand scheme of things. I invite the viewer to observe the peace and understanding in his eyes that comes from his ability to disassociate himself from material wants. He seems to have the ability to perceive truths of many realms beyond our own.
