Description
A tribute to women from the tribal areas of Pakistan- Bano, or the Princess is representative of the graceful dignity and the steadfast courage that has long defined women from this region. Resistant to the influences of modernization, the way of life perpetuated in the tribal areas belies a certain old-world charm- reminiscent of a time when honor codes- personal and social – held people to the highest moral standards. However, this painting also draws attention to her softer side, her garland of flowers and feathers unites her with nature and its bounty. She is strong and resilient, yet delicate and demure at the same time. While her eyes reflect her unshakeable confidence in her own abilities and sense of self, her face belies fierce pride in her heritage as well.
